HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP)

HTTP is a protocol most often used to transfer hypertext markup language (HTML) documents across the Internet.

It uses TCP and is primarily used for retrieving Web pages.

Resources for HTTP are found in /System/Library/StartupItems/Apache.

The Apache HTTP server serves Web pages from your computer.

The Apache HTTP server can be enabled by turning on Personal Web Sharing in the Services pane of Sharing preferences.

Files and folders for Personal Web Sharing are shared from the Sites folder. Files and folders can also be placed in /Library/WebServer/Documents.
