The process of password-protecting data with the
use of a one-time hash called an encryption key. You can establish
a network tunnel to pass encrypted data over a network, and you can
encrypt a network session using SSH and SSL. In the file system,
encrypted data can be stored in encrypted disk images, in
FileVault-protected home folders, and with encrypted virtual
memory.
